Throwback Track/Video

I'm still bugging that they played this joint at the strip club. Also, did you know Saafir played Cain's cousin Harold in Menace II Society?

West Coast Up In This BEEEEOOOOOTCH!!!!!!!!

I'm in class right now learning about inventory and schitt. I really should be learning, but before I get back to my priorities, I have to hook this up. One of the best west coast G-Funk albums I've ever heard, produced entirely by arguably the best West Coast producer Battlecat. You need this in your library.

Battlecat - Gumbo Roots

By the way my bad for the lack of posts. Doode's priorities are with school right now. Not to mention I'm illin' like a villain too. But look out for the show to keep on rolling.

VIDEO: 2008 NBA Dunk Contest

Damn, Dwight Howard definitely put on a show. But let's not give all the credit to him. Gerald "Birthday Cake" Green did some very creative dunks in his own right. Give it up to both of them. Did these two save the dunk contest Saturday night?

DJ Quik - The Death Row Sessions EP

This is a collection of unreleased Quik tracks that he made while he was on Death Row Records. If you notice on the cover it says his real name David Blake instead of his rap name. Reason is because he was signed to another label as DJ Quik. So in order to be on Death Row Records he signed on as his real name.

BIG L Rest In Peace

I remember the day when I first heard of Big L. It was in Spanish class my senior year of high school. My homie Marty and I were talking about music and he asked me if I heard of Big L. I told him I didn't. He said he was one the best rappers EVER. I didn't believe it. How can he be the best ever if I ain't never heard of him? So I downloaded a few tracks, and the rest is history. He was my favorite rapper...period. I thought he was the best. Big L definitely is all-time when it comes to the skill. His flow was ridiculous and the punch lines were classic. Dude was gunned down on this day today 9 years ago. He was reported to be close to signing with Roc-A-Fella Records. Even though he came with one true album, he is still considered the best by many. Recognize.

Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt

Another classic album during the mafioso rap era, along with AZ's Doe Or Die and Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx... The production is timeless and Jay-Z's delivery is smooth, a winning combination. And the aftermath? Well, it's obvious.

Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt

Bonus Cut:

Original Flava Feat. Jay-Z - Can I Get Open?

ONE of the very first appearances by Jay-Z was on this track. Original Flava was a group which consisted of DJ Chubby Chubb, T-Strong, and Ski. Ski would later become a producer on Reasonable Doubt producing tracks such as "Dead President's" and "Feelin' It".

Get Yourself Familiar With...

....Jay Electronica.

As always, I was put up on this doode by my Cuz'N. Goes by the name of Jay Electronica. I'm not sure if this is just a compilation or his debut CD, but regardless, this schitt is dope, and with production by Just Blaze, Madlib, J Dilla & Jay Electronica himself, how can you not agree?

Stacy Epps - Ruff Draft

This post is for the biggest Stacy Epps fan I know, you know who you are! The album came out a few months ago but I wasn't aware of it. After hearing her track Floatin', I gave her first album a listen. Production is great and her vocals are very melodic. A great listen.

Focus is one of Dre's producers on the Aftermath Label. He's coming out with an album of his own. This is the first single.

Usher ft. Young Jeezy - In This Club

Madvillain - Madvillainy

Right now I'm bumpin' this Jay Electronica I got from my cuz (which I will be posting for you very soon) so I haven't gotten around to this album. Even though I've had more than 3 years to listen to it. But I will get to it. From what I've heard/read, you better get on this. All tracks are produced by Madlib with rapper MF Doom puttin' it down. Hence, Madlib + MF Doom = Madvillain.

Madvillain (Madlib & MF Doom) - Madvillainy

My Five Favorite Producers

With all respect to the RZA, Battlecat, Easy Mo Bee, Madlib, and a few others, none can top these guys as my favorite producers. These guys here, if I see a track and it's produced by either one of them, I'm going to listen to that track, and more often than not, it's hot. So.....

My Top 5 Producers (In no particular order):

DJ Quik
Dr. Dre
J Dilla
DJ Premier
9th Wonder

What?!?! There ain't no more to it!

Who are your top 5?

Please comment.

Ego Trippin' Cover/ Kurupt News/ Jay Rock & Lil' Wayne

Looks pretty tight. I wanna see him go back to the drawn covers tho like Doggystyle and Tha Last Meal. In stores March 11.

Some Kurupt news:

Kurupt has announced that Hi-Tek and Terrace Martin will be overseeing the production of his next solo album...There's also a big mystery surrounding who will put out the project...Until then, you can look out for the new Dogg Pound album "100 Wayz", a Kurupt & DJ Quik duo album produced by DJ Quik and Terrace Martin, and Snoop Dogg's "Ego Trippin," which will feature involvement from DJ Quik, Terrace Martin, Problem, and Teddy Riley among many others.

This info is actually a couple of weeks old, but better late than never.

And peep the new track. I hate Cool & Dre because they produce the crap that you hear on the radio, but they got it right on this one. Peep it.

Throwback Track/Video Of The Week

This track came off the FUBU Goodlife Album back in the day. I remember seeing this video on BET and loving the Ice T cameo. This is one of my all-time jams. Not only is it smooth, the lyrics are dope, and it brings back memories. As far as I know this dude comes out of Detroit and this is the only song of his to date. Peep the track.

Drunken Master & Lola Damone - 50 Niggaz Deep

Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle

Man....where to begin with this one. My homie Mary Thiel put me on this. If you checking this Marty, what up homie! I was so high, like a falcon soaring through the sky, when he was bumping a track called G'z & Hustlaz and I was so astounded by his flow. Instantly I thought this dude was the best ever and was saying this out loud. No joke. So I bought it myself, and played the hell out of it. Every track is great. And while the production is an outstanding listen, I mostly enjoyed hearing a young Snoop ripping them to shreds. To me the last two tracks are the best, as they are my favorite Snoop cuts. Another interesting fact I heard about this album was from my homeboy Mike. He said that Snoop and Tha Dogg Pound were fucking around too much and Dr. Dre left the project. So they finished it anyways in a few days, and Dre came back to mix it and sharpen it up, taking the credit. If you haven't, please get on this album. Included is an unreleased/bonus track that was on the original Doggystyle but is now left off present copies of the album.

Snoop Doggy Dogg - Doggystyle

Someone had problems with the link. It's fine on my end, but if you have problems with the original check the alternate.

Buckshot x 9th Wonder - Chemistry

Being the big Black Moon fan that I am, Buckshot is one of my favorite MC's. When I heard of an album produced entirely by 9th Wonder, one of my favorite producers, with Buckshot spittin', I had to get on it. The title definitely describes this album as both show they have it. Lookout for another Buckshot/9th Wonder collabo coming soon titled, The Formula. In the meantime, peep the chemistry.
